Inspirational Wednesday!

It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that things are difficult

– Seneca

This week’s Inspirational Wednesday affects everyone in different ways. This quote is trying to explain that we do things that we are used to doing, and are more reluctant to try something that is outside of our comfort zones. For many people, including myself, this is often the case. This is because our imaginations run away with us. It exaggerates the fear and the outcomes of the action in question. For example, there is the amusement park not that far away from me, and there was this one ride that I would never go on. It’s known as the Future Dance, a ride where there is a line of seats that just go around in a circle. Anyways, I would never go on it because my imagination would create all of these ridiculous situations that would most likely never occur. A couple of summers ago, my cousin forced me on the ride, much to the annoyance of the butterflies in my stomach, and you know what I genuinely don’t know what I was afraid of. I was just being a baby about it. I went out of comfort zone and I enjoyed myself. (I don’t know what relevance this had to the quote, but oh well).

But what I think Seneca is trying to say is that you need to be more daring and try new things. This reminds me of one of my favourite Dr. Seuss books, Green Eggs and Ham. The character looked at the green eggs and ham in front of him and because he didn’t like the look of it he said that he didn’t want to try it. The moral of the story was you will never know if you like it or not, if you don’t try it. Comes back to the old saying, ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’.

So that’s what I want all of you to do this week is to try something different and see how it goes. Let us know in the comments below if it worked or not.. 🙂

R.I.P Stephen Covey

I recently read that Stephen Covey had passed away. This is a man whose teachings have inspired people from all walks of life in both their personal and professional lives. I am a huge fan of his writing – his teachings of empathy and highlighting the importance of listening have made me feel as if it has impacted the way I am people.

So I’ve come up with the 6 most important lessons that I have learned from Stephen Covey throughout his writings:

1. Seek first to understand, then to be understood.

2. Find your voice and inspire others to find their voice

3. Leadership is communicating to people their worth and potential so clearly that they come to see it in themselves.

4. I am not the product of my circumstances, I am the product of my decisions.

5. People are working harder than ever, but because they lack clarity and vision, they aren’t getting very far.

6. Human beings are not things needing to be motivated and controlled; they are four dimensional – mind, body, heart and spirit.

R.I.P Stephen Covey, may your teachings keep inspiring millions.

Hope you have an amazing weekend!

Until Next Time,

Cody

Inspirational Wednesday!

We must carry forward the work of the women who came before us. Ensure our daughters have no limits on their dreams, no obstacles to their achievement and no remaining ceilings to shatter.

– President Barack Obama

This week’s Inspirational Wednesday is about women and what we can do. Since this blog is entitled “Marketing Gurls” and is run and managed by 2 girls, I feel as if this quote encompasses both feminist beliefs held by Sinead and I. I truly believe in the power of women and what they can do and achieve in their lives.

I believe that anybody can do anything, if they just put their minds to it. After all, what we do today affects what our grandchildren will see and do in the future. In essence, what you do today has a ripple effect on future generations. We need to remember past in order to perfect our future. No one wants to make the same mistakes that they made yesterday, they try to fix them so that it won’t happen again. So let that sink in for a minute…

This quote is trying to rely the message of never forgetting where you come from and the obstacles you’ve overcome to get where you are today. As women, throughout the ages, they faced animosity and suffered greatly to ensure the rights of women today. In certain countries around the world, women don’t have the rights and freedom like we have. Certain women in those countries now fight for the rights that we want so badly, whereas we have those privileges because of women that campaigned for us and our rights.

Women need to help each other out, and look past all of the bitchiness and catty behavior because it would make the world a better place. I stand by the fact that women are capable of anything if they put their minds to it.

So use your Girl Power for good, not bad. Go against the status quo. Being straitlaced and saying that everything will be fine is boring! DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT! You only get one chance at living, so live life to the fullest. When you look back on your life, will you be able to say that I lived an amazing life? Only you can answer that..

Until Next Time,

6 Reasons of Why We All Need A Social Media Vacation

Hey everyone,

So this week, I decided that I would write about why we all need a break from Social Media. Social Media is taking over our lives in many ways. Nowadays, we can’t breathe without checking our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram accounts. I know this because I’m constantly refreshing all of those feeds. It’s addictive! There’s a void in all of us, whether we know it or not that we try to fill by being distracted by Social Media 24 hours of the day. So does one really know what they are missing? The answer is NO. If we took our faces away from the screens of our phones, tablets and computers, what would we see? The world that is happening around us. One also must ask themselves a question; Are there benefits to taking a social media break? I think only the person that tries it can really answer that question.

So, I’ve come with 6 things that you could do whilst on your Social Media break;

1. Learn New Things:

The world are you is full of new and interesting things that you can explore. I truly believe that you can learn something new everyday. Put your phone down and take in the world around you. I recently saw Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and I thought it was an amazing movie. There’s a line in it that goes “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, life moves pretty fast and if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” This line helped me create this blog for you today. Maybe we should all take a leaf out of Ferris Bueller’s book?

2. Get Things Done:

When you’re off Facebook or Twitter or YouTube, you’ll get work done. I’d say many people use Social Media as a way of procrastinating (I do!). You can get the work done that you’ve been putting off. One of your friends can let you know if something majorly important happens.

3. Read A Book:

I personally prefer to read a novel that’s in a physical book form. I know there are devices today that allow you to read an e-copy of a book like e-readers and Kindles. There’s millions of books out there for you to read, you just have to be willing.  As an added bonus, I just love the way a new book smells. (I know, I’m a tad strange :P) Book Recommendation that I have for you all is Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger. I think that it’s a book that should be read by all.

4. Help Out Somebody:

You could help someone out who doesn’t know how to use Social Media. You could put your knowledge and expertise to good use. The people you could are your younger siblings, your parents, even a friend whose new to technology scene. By doing this, you could feel better about your Social Media obsession because you’ve someone else.

5. Spend Time With Family:

For me, family is the most important. Do I need to go further? 😛

6. Travel:

It’s summer time! This is the time of the year where everyone should be having fun. Go on a road trip or a cruise. Or just stay at home and explore the local tourist attractions in your area that you’ve never been to. And then after that, you can post up all your lovely photos on your Social Media accounts for your friends to enjoy.

I hope you all have enjoyed this week’s blog! Let me know in the comments below what you thought of it! I love to hear/read feedback on blogs.. 🙂 Anyways, hope you all have an amazing weekend..

Until Next Time,

Cody

Inspirational Wednesday

“Everything you want should be yours: the type of work you want; the relationships you need;the social, mental and aesthetic stimulation that will make you happy and fulfilled;the money that you require for the lifestyle that is appropriate to you;and any requirement that you may (or may not) have for achievement or service to others.

If you don’t aim, you’ll never get it all. To aim for it requires that you know what you want.”

– Richard Koch

This week’s Inspirational Wednesday is about figuring out what you want to do with your life. What are your aspirations, dreams or goals?

I think its time for us to take charge! We all have a vision of what we want or lives to turn out like, and we all think that its impossible to make those dreams into reality. But I think that YOU  are the barriers to your dreams. We all say ‘thats impossible’ or ‘dream on’ but how can other people live their dreams and you ponder at home thinking about yours. Those days are over! Dreams do come true! (A little cheesy I know) My dream that I turned into reality was going to college and I made it happen. And I’m glad that I did! We can all achieve our dreams and find our one true passion in life along the way!

YOU NEED TO MAKE IT HAPPEN! With a little help and perseverance, you can do it. The most inspirational leaders of our time like Obama, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerburg  all started out with a dream or a vision. They made a change and a difference to people’s lives. You can do it too. What you could do could make a huge difference to somebody’s day. Just think about that… One small thing could amount to something great.

The Dos and Don’ts of Interview Fashion

Hey Everyone!

This week I’m going to be talking about the do’s and don’ts of what one should wear for an interview. I find this topic especially interesting as it applies to everyone. I know myself that I will be facing interviews in September for co-op/work experience with a company and I need to wear appropriate clothing as first impressions everything. Don’t fret men who are reading this, I will be listing rules that apply to both men and women. So let’s get started then….

WOMEN:

Dos:

  •  Do Cover Up Any Tattoos or Piercings:

It has been said that those who do have tattoos or piercings showing makes employers less eager to hire them.

  • Do Wear Minimal Makeup:

Wear a light, natural looking makeup. You want to look fresh faced and ready to go! Also wear a light pink or a nude tone lipstick, cause after all those tones look great on everyone.

  • Do Groom Your Hair:

Wear your off of your face, then you’ll be less like to play with it during the interview. Pull it back into a low ponytail or into a bun. Both hairstyles are easy to do and classy.

  • Do Wear Something Comfortable and Form Fitting:

Wear clothes that are comfortable to wear and fit well to your body shape. Also be sure that you are able to breathe in them. Wear an A-line or pencil skirt that stops at the knee or a pair of dress/suit pants. Accessorize your outfit with minimal jewellery, like a simple necklace and a small finger ring and a simple but professional looking handbag.

And last, but certainly not least;

  • Do Wear Low-Heeled Shoes:

Wear low heeled pumps underneath your skirt or your pants. This is a way of adding a small difference in your height without your normal pair of 7-inch stilettos on a night out. You can find them in any shoe section in any clothing store. Here is where you can add that pop of colour to your outfit without looking unprofessional. I mean who doesn’t love red shoes?

Donts:

  • Don’t Show Too Much Skin:

Don’t wear tops that have plunging necklines or skirts/pants that have slits up the sides. No see-through tops or low rise pants or crop tops. You’re not there to show them the latest fashions, you are there to get employed. So unfortunately, you have to look the part.

  • Don’t Use Too Much Perfume or Have Excessive Body Odor:

Nobody wants to choke on your perfume or gag at your excessive body odor during an interview. That’s what you’ll be remembered for, and it won’t be what you have said. Carry a small deodorant in your bag and wear a light, crisp, clean scent in regards to perfume. Its a win/win situation people.

  • Don’t Wear Too Much Make-Up:

You’re not going out! So tone it down! Also NO chipped nail polish.

  • Don’t Wear Ill Fitting Clothes:

Wear something that flatters your body, not something that hugs you in all of the wrong places.

  • Don’t Wear a Hat or Have Visible Logos on Your Person:

Don’t wear a hat, it’s bad manners to wear one inside anyways. No ones wants to know read the funny quotations that logos bring. They only want to know about you in a professional manner. Save those for your days off.

Men:

Dos:

  • Do Cover Up Tattoos and Piercings:

Remove any facial piercings for the interview, you can put them back in once it’s finished.

  • Do Wear A Suit that FITS:

Nothing looks nicer than a man in a suit that fits perfectly. Wear a suit that is either grey or navy, both colours are great for interviews!

  • Do Wear a Belt that Matches Your Shoes:

To me, this is just a man’s way of accessorizing. I mean it just looks good!

  • Do Groom Your Facial Hair:

If you have a beard, trim it to look neat and tidy. If you have stubble, just shave it. There are only certain people who look good with stubble. Maybe you are not one of those, so just shave it.. 🙂

  • Do Carry A Briefcase:

If you don’t like them, well that’s your choice. I think they look professional and like you have everything together. If you don’t want a briefcase, a messenger bag will do the same job.

Don’ts:

  • Don’t Wear Too Much Cologne or Have Excessive Body Odor:

Just wash and use your cologne that your mother/sister/girlfriend got you for Christmas. Chances are, it smells amazing! A small bit goes a long way.

  • Don’t Wear An Ill Fitting Suit:

Just no!

  • Don’t Show Too Much Skin:

No one wants to see your chest hair so just cover it up. 🙂

  • Don’t Carry A Lot in Your Pockets:

Those bulges aren’t necessary and unprofessional. You need the entire contents of your house in your pockets. Just leave them in your briefcase/messenger bag (your choice at the end of the day).

  • Don’t Wear a Hat or Have Visible Logos:

Firstly, as I have said for the Female Don’ts, a hat is unnecessary for an indoor interview. No Visible logos unless they are small, like the Ralph Lauren logo on shirts or something. Then that’s okay.

I hope you all liked this blog post. Leave comments telling us about your dos and don’ts of Interview Fashion. At the end of the day, wear an outfit that reflects your personal style and what you are comfortable but at the same time being professional. I mean we all want to come out of there thinking we’ve got a job, don’t we? Anyways, that’s all from me today, hope you all have an amazing weekend, wherever you may be in the world!

Until Next Week,

Cody

Inspirational Wednesday!

“Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinion drown your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly become. Everything else is secondary.”

Steve Jobs

This week’s Inspirational Wednesday is about following your own beliefs and thoughts. There is no need for you to listen to what others tell you do, you should do it for yourself! Do what makes YOU happy. If people see that you are happy, it’s infectious, thus making those around you happy. Don’t try to be somebody else, just be YOU! Find your happy place, and be the change that wish to see in the world around you. You control your own future, not anybody else. So take control of your life today, and see where the world takes you, you might be surprised with the results.. 🙂

Anyways, I’ll leave it for today. Sorry about no blog post on Friday, it was a hectic day and I forgot to write one. Oopsie! But there will be one up on Friday 🙂

Happy Hump Day

Inspirational Wednesday!

“Rely on your own strength of body and soul. Take for your star self-reliance, faith, honesty and industry. Don’t take too much advice – keep at the helm and steer your own ship, and remember that the great art of commanding is to take a fair share of the work. Fire above the mark you intend to hit. Energy, invincible determination with the right motive, are the levers that move the world.”

Noah Porter

Today, I felt inspired to write about leadership. Leadership starts with you believing that you are capable of  doing anything. As people, we tend to make excuses not to do certain things that we want to do. There is a certain “fear factor” that we have put in place for ourselves that we cling on to in brief, unexpected moments in each one of our lives. Some of the greatest leaders in past and present generations did not let this “fear factor” stop them from doing what they thought was right. They believed in themselves and their ideas. When you believe, you inspire others. When your actions inspire others, you empower them to achieve/live out their dreams, thus encouraging them to believe in themselves. Being a leader and inspiring others to do the same, is a powerful thing that any one person can have.

Change starts with you and it should start today! No putting it off, saying “you’ll do it tomorrow”. Small things make great impacts on people.

My project for you is to do something out of your comfort zone and see where it takes you. There’s a life beyond your comfort zone for you to explore. Add life to your days, not days to your life! Turn your dreams into reality because you cannot always wait for the perfect time, sometimes you just need to jump. Today is the day when you start anew! 🙂

Happy Hump Day!
